The word “Kippah” in hebrew is a polysemy. One of its meanings is Yamaka, a Jewish head piece traditionally worn by man and the other is a dome. The name Iron Dome (“Kippat Barzel”) is originally a metaphorical name given by Maf’at (a joint administrative body of the Israeli Ministry of Defence) to the protective shield that stretches over the central area of Israel, in order to protect Israeli citizens against missiles fired from Gaza. This sculpture reference the privilege of the Jewish people to be protected in the state of Israel. Under such representation of the Iron Dome, it also contemplates the dominant militant interpretation of the Jewish religion in contemporary Israel, which continues to cloud the significant distinction between Judaism and Zionism. There is an irony in the piece by which the iron fluid did not flow through the entire cast to complete the shape of the Yamaka; an outcome that hints at the protection’s uncertainty which exists under the Palestinian/Israeli conflict.
